Within less than a month from its grand opening, Javier Plascencia’s newest restaurant, Animalón by the Sea, has quickly become one of Los Cabos’ most exceptional dining experiences.

Animalón by The Sea is a concept that combines both a fine-dining restaurant and a sunset cruise. With only one seating per day, the floating restaurant offers a sensational 6-course menu with optional wine pairing and picture-perfect views of the Cabo San Lucas bay and iconic Arch rock formation. The innovative menu follows the farm-to-table culinary trend for which Los Cabos is known, using primarily ingredients sourced from the Baja Peninsula, both land and sea.

The Animalón restaurant is the second of its name under the direction of Chef Javier Plascencia and Executive Chef Óscar Torres; the first and original is located in Enseñada, in Baja’s Wine Country, Valle de Guadalupe. The name Animalón (meaning giant animal) comes from a 200-year-old giant oak tree that is the first restaurant’s main focal point and venue.

In a recent interview with Food and Travel Mx, Chef Plascencia explained that bringing Animalón to the open waters of the Sea of Cortez was a project that came from the pandemic and as a way to reinvent themselves.

“It’s a way to not stand still, hoping and waiting for this to pass. People want to live new experiences and be outdoors in the open air; projects like this allow us to continue creating in the kitchen and generate jobs; keeping us inventive”
– Chef Javier Plascencia, in an interview with Food and Travel Mx

Animalón by the Sea has a seating capacity for around 35 people on the 49-foot luxury boat, with tables and a bar spaced across two large deck levels. It also has spacious bathrooms for convenience. Scheduled departures are from Wednesday through Saturday at 5:30pm (that will vary with season and sunset) and departs from “Deck K” in the Cabo San Lucas Marina. The cruising and dining experience is around three hours long, and pricing starts at $160 USD per person. Reservations are required due to exclusivity and limited seating capacity.
