The day before departure back to Los Angeles, Jaramillo’s last activity in the destination included a visit to nearby Tamarindo’s Farm-to-Table Restaurant and Organic Farm, a mile away from the Sea of Cortez and San Jose del Cabo’s estuary. Tamarindos is located in an original farmhouse dating back to the 19th Century and was once a sugar cane plantation (one of the region’s major exports at the time), and due to its fertile soil quickly became one of the region’s most important farms. The farm was purchased 22 years ago by the current owner, Chef Enrique Silva and his brother. It produces guavas, lemons, olives, bananas, mangos, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, arugula, basil and much more.
