As general manager, she says what truly drives her every day is people — both the hotel guests and her team. Goyita says it is her values of consistency and discipline that have guided her throughout her career.

Here’s our conversation with Goyita:

What attracted you to the position of general manager?

What attracted me to this position was the ability to serve our guests and clients, develop human talent, and the opportunity to lead a hotel with high standards – driven by creativity, innovations and the development of strategic plans for continuous improvement and service excellence.

What is your educational background?

I received a master’s degree in private law, and a diploma in luxury hospitality and hospitality management.

What is a rewarding aspect of your role as general manager?

I care deeply about creating an environment where individuals can grow, feel valued, and reach their full potential. I believe that when people are supported, inspired and recognized for their efforts, they naturally deliver their best. My goal is to create a culture where people feel proud of their work, guests feel truly cared for, and every experience reflects authenticity, warmth, and excellence. 

As a general manager, what sustainability efforts do you incorporate at the hotel? 

In our hotel, sustainability is not just an initiative, it is a responsibility that guides our daily operations and long-term vision. We have implemented several efforts focused on reducing our environmental impact, such as creating a paperless environment and reducing unnecessary printing and optimizing digital processes across departments. We are deeply committed to the protection of sea turtles, and supporting conservation efforts that help preserve our local ecosystem. Additionally, we have developed water and energy efficiency programs, ensuring responsible use of resources through monitoring, optimization and team awareness. Waste management is another important pillar of responsibility throughout the hotel – where we actively separate and recycle organic and inorganic materials.

What major projects or accomplishments are you most proud of achieving in the last year? 

I feel truly proud of achieving high results in both employee satisfaction in the workplace, and in being recognized as one of the top leaders in my company. I am equally proud of the satisfaction we constantly deliver to our guests, as well as the financial results we have achieved. It is especially meaningful to me that our hotel was included in the list of the Top 20 Resorts in Western México by Condé Nast in 2025, and that we have continued to uphold distinctions, such as the Four Diamond Award and Excellence recognitions from R.C.I., among others.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to become a general manager? 

My recommendation would be to work very closely with your team, learn from each member of the team, and at the same time support the professional growth of each of them. This not only strengthens individuals but also builds a well-prepared team that is capable of solving challenges, innovating, and contributing meaningfully to the achievement of the company’s goals. Remaining close to both guests, and team members, gives you invaluable experience to continue advancing your career in hospitality. Listening to others allows you to grow into a more innovative and creative leader, while also developing a deep sense of empathy and human sensitivity: essential qualities in true hospitality and service. 

Favorite book, or quote, or saying? 

“The Servant: A Simple Story About the True Essence of Leadership” by James C. Hunter, “The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom” by Dr. Miguel Ruiz, and the phrase that guides my life comes from the Bible, Luke 6:31: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

What do you love most about working / living in Los Cabos?

What I enjoy most about working and living in Los Cabos is that it is one of the best places in México to build a career in hospitality as it offers strong opportunities for professional growth. At the same time, it allows me to live in close connection with nature and the opportunity to make the most of my time with family – enjoying the ocean and all the natural beauty and ecological richness that this wonderful destination has to offer. 

Anything else you would like to share?

Hospitality and service are my greatest strengths, along with supporting my team in its professional development. I am also passionate about empowering other women to grow their talent and step confidently into executive and management leadership roles, without fear, guided by knowledge and leading with a sense of humanity. I believe the hospitality industry gives me a unique opportunity to focus on the details, and to use my sensitivity as a woman to positively influence others – creating meaningful connections and rendering service with genuine courtesy.

Seven desalination plants supply potable water to residential and hospitality areas, producing up to 3,000 cubic meters of fresh water daily. This system is complemented by two advanced water‑treatment facilities that recycle 100 percent of wastewater for irrigation across gardens, landscaped areas and Quivira Golf Club.

These efforts align with the Equator Principles, a globally recognized framework for managing environmental and social risks while optimizing water use and energy efficiency.

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Innovation

Pueblo Bonito continues to reduce its carbon footprint through smart energy solutions and forward‑thinking design. Energy‑efficient technologies—including LED lighting, smart thermostats, and solar water heaters—are installed throughout the hotels,  helping to achieve a 20 percent annual reduction in energy use and preventing approximately 1,200 tons of CO₂ emissions each year.

Half of all exterior and landscape lighting is currently powered by renewable energy, with plans to increase that figure to 70 percent. Bioclimatic architecture further enhances efficiency by using natural solar orientation to minimize the need for air conditioning. Looking ahead, Pueblo Bonito is expanding solar‑panel installations and exploring emerging technologies such as atmospheric water generation systems.

Sustainable Building and Native Plant Conservation

Environmental responsibility begins at the construction phase. All building materials used at Pueblo Bonito are sourced from certified suppliers who meet strict legal and sustainability standards. Under a zero‑deforestation policy, native trees and vegetation are carefully transplanted during construction and preserved in designated conservation areas.

At the heart of this effort is the Amakiri Botanical Garden, a sanctuary dedicated to protecting native Baja flora. Home to more than 300 plant species, including 15 endangered and protected varieties, the garden plays a vital role in biodiversity preservation and environmental education. Approximately 80 percent of its plants are propagated on‑site, ensuring long‑term genetic conservation.

Farm‑to‑Table Dining with Purpose

Pueblo Bonito’s commitment to sustainability extends to the table. All resort restaurants prioritize regionally sourced ingredients, working closely with local farms, dairies, and sustainable fishing cooperatives. These partnerships help protect marine and coastal ecosystems while supporting the local economy.

Collaborations with government entities and environmental organizations such as PROFEPA and SEMARNAT reinforce responsible fishing practices, adherence to closed seasons, and strict traceability standards—all ensuring that guests enjoy fresh, ethical cuisine.

Composting and Clean‑Fuel Initiatives

To reduce waste and support healthy landscapes, Pueblo Bonito operates a comprehensive composting program that produces between five and seven tons of nutrient‑rich compost annually from organic waste generated by resort kitchens. This compost is used throughout the community’s gardens and green spaces.

In addition, used cooking oil is now repurposed through a biodiesel program introduced last year. The biodiesel fuels maintenance vehicles and equipment, further reducing emissions and reinforcing a circular approach to resource management.

Protecting Wildlife: From Shore to Sea

Pueblo Bonito has long been a steward of local wildlife. For more than 20 years, its sea turtle protection program has safeguarded four species nesting along four kilometers of shoreline, sheltering nearly 2,000 nests each year and releasing tens of thousands of hatchlings into the ocean. The program actively involves residents, guests, and local schools, fostering environmental awareness across generations.

Marine conservation efforts also extend offshore. Pueblo Bonito works closely with local authorities to report whale strandings and assists in rescue efforts whenever possible, helping protect these iconic marine mammals.

Eliminating Single‑Use Plastics

Long before plastic reduction became widespread, Pueblo Bonito launched its “Save the Seas—Skip the Straw” initiative in 2018. Since then, the community has eliminated plastic straws, replaced plastic bottles with reusable glass, and introduced refillable containers in guest rooms—significantly reducing plastic waste and helping protect Los Cabos’ rich marine ecosystems.

Creating a Circular Economy Through Recycling

Recycling at Pueblo Bonito goes beyond collection. Glass bottles collected from the resorts are sent to the nearby San Miguel Blown Glass Factory, where local artisans transform them into handcrafted pieces such as vases and sculptures. These works are displayed throughout the resorts and sold in gift shops, closing the loop on waste while supporting local craftsmanship.

Since 2003, Pueblo Bonito Golf & Spa Resorts has served as an environmental custodian by safeguarding sea turtle nests from predators. The program’s mission is to return turtle hatchlings to the sea to boost the survival rate of an endangered reptile that’s crucial to the region’s ecosystem.

Twenty-two years ago, a scant 83 nests were safeguarded at Pueblo Bonito’s two oceanfront resorts, Pacifica and Sunset Beach. In 2024, more than 1,500 nests were protected, a significant increase. Nesting typically occurs between June 15 and December 7. The incubation period for turtle eggs is approximately 45 days.

World Turtle Day, sponsored by American Tortoise Rescue, a nonprofit organization established in 1990 to protect all tortoise and turtle species, was created to celebrate turtles and tortoises and protect their disappearing habitats worldwide. On May 23, turtle lovers from Cabo to Cuba will throw parties, organize fundraisers, and take “shellfies” to share on social media.

While turtles have survived for more 200 million years (they outlived the dinosaurs), approximately 61% of the worldwide population are threatened or already extinct. According to experts, turtles, often associated with wisdom and longevity, are the most threatened of the major group of vertebrates, more so than birds, mammals, and fish.

Pueblo Bonito Golf & Spa Resorts has diligently answered the call, heeding the mission statement of World Turtle Day’s organizers: “It’s in our best interest to share the planet with turtles harmoniously and responsibly as part of our natural heritage.”

At the appointed hour later this year, thousands of turtle hatchlings the size of silver dollars will scurry across the beach to the sea. These gentle reptiles need all the help they can get to safely reach the water, attain maturity and increase their numbers.

Guests of Pueblo Bonito Resorts can join conservation team members to carry the hatchlings of endangered sea turtles to the shallow surf, greatly enhancing their chances of survival. Last year, 145,000 hatchlings were successfully released.

Because everything in nature is interrelated, turtles play a unique role in the preservation of the shoreline in Los Cabos.

If sea turtles diminish in number, both the beach and marine systems at the tip of the Baja Peninsula will suffer. Sea turtles use beaches and dunes to nest and lay approximately 100 eggs per nest. They not only dig holes that are inhabited by other creatures, but they also keep beaches clean by feeding on dead fish that wash up on shore. Dune plants use the nutrients from turtle eggs to grow and become stronger. Without the turtles, dune vegetation would lose a major source of nutrients and would not be healthy or strong enough to anchor the dunes and form a wall to defend the coast against high waves. Without turtles, the fragile balance of the ecosystem would be seriously affected. In time, the beaches would erode and wash away. The negative impact on tourism would be incalculable.  

Three of seven of the world’s sea turtle species live and reproduce in Los Cabos. The Olive Ridley turtle population is recovering favorably. There’s also the brown (or black) turtle; and the leatherback turtle, which attains a length of seven feet and a weight of over 2,000 pounds.
